Some details of the Avengers stars in comic strips, cartoons and annual comic books.
Introduction
Following the success of the early BBC TV series of the Avengers, emerged the comic strip newspaper stories,
the various annual comic books and the inclusion of cameo roles by the Avengers
stars in other comic books, drawings and newspaper cartoons. The Avengers have made cameo appearances in various comics
and each featured the pairing of Steed and Mrs. Peel - certainly the most famous due to the early export of those
Avengers comic Peel episodes worldwide (and most especially to the USA).
They have appeared as comic strips in various pages of Look magazine, Look Westward, the TV Times, the Viewer, the
TV Post (Belfast) and the Manchester Evening News. The sequence of stories from the Viewer were -
September 14 to October 19 1963: 'Epidemic of Terror',
November 2 to December 7 1963: 'Quest For A Queen', December 21 1963 to February 1 1964: 'Operation Harem'
and March 7 to May 9 1964: 'The Computer Menace'. Most of the other Avengers Comic Peel entries were around this time.
The above image shows the dynamic duo of Steed and Peel making an appearance in a bar scene in this work from 1994. The artist, Alex Ross, is well-known for his use of photo-referencing famous people into his strips. The Avengers are standing just behind the Man of Steel.

Sometimes the characters were depicted in a different light to the original series and certainly the comic appeal has been
taken as a license to change and even a license to kill. The various cameo roles were inline with the Avengers comic Peel stories
but bear no real relationship to the stories in the original BBC TV Avengers series.
